Intention & grounding
The dive begins on land: breath, body check, honest limits and a clear intention set alongside the standard briefing.

The world's first global standard for mindful diving
Mindful Diving™ unites diving, breath and the science of happiness — the ocean as Earth's greatest classroom of presence.
An initiative of the World Happiness FoundationThe Manifesto
We believe the ocean is one of the greatest places on Earth to cultivate presence.
Every dive is a chance to reconnect — with ourselves, with each other, with the living sea.
Every breath underwater teaches awareness.
Every descent reminds us that happiness begins with presence.
This is why Mindful Diving exists: to turn the world's most beautiful sport into a path of wellbeing — for divers, for instructors, for the ocean itself.
— THE MINDFUL DIVING MANIFESTO
The purpose
Mindfulness is one of the tools. The purpose is larger: ocean wellbeing — the wellbeing of the people who dive and of the sea they dive in, measured together.
Complementary to SSI · PADI · CMAS · RAID — never a replacement
Why now
Wellness travel is booming. Diving is already contemplative by nature — the breath, the silence, the immersion in something larger. And yet no international standard connects diving with wellbeing science, until now.
Mindful Diving™ creates the category.
The practice arc
Intention & grounding
The dive begins on land: breath, body check, honest limits and a clear intention set alongside the standard briefing.
Presence in the water
Slow, continuous breathing, buoyancy as attention practice, and non-judgmental observation of the reef, the buddy and the mind.
The surface interval
The surface interval becomes the practice: reflection, integration and conversation before the next descent.
Transfer to daily life
What was learned underwater travels home: attention, regulation and care carried into work, relationships and the ocean itself.
The standard
Every practice sits inside the diver's existing agency standards and dive plan. Mindful pre-dive protocols, honest self-assessment and a no-pressure turnaround culture.
Breath, attention and intention frame every dive: grounding before entry, present-moment awareness below, structured reflection afterwards.
Guides and instructors are the front line of safety. Centers commit to fair conditions, rest, burnout prevention and continuous wellbeing training.
Low-impact diving, buoyancy mastery, no-contact ethics, citizen science and a measurable contribution to local marine protection.
Inclusive briefings, psychological safety in the group, buddy culture built on trust, and welcome for divers of every background and ability.
Wellbeing, stress and presence measured before and after programmes with validated instruments. Measured, not assumed.
Centers act as hubs of wellbeing in their community, applying the World Happiness Foundation's science of happiness to how they lead, teach and host.
The descent

The ocean is a meditation hall.

Begin above the surface.
Every dive is already a contemplation session — the breath, the silence, the weightlessness. Dive Into Presence is the World Happiness Academy's open program, for certified divers and complete beginners alike. It is the free first breath of the pathway, before any credential.

Evidence
Every programme is assessed with the FP20 Fundamental Peace scale and other validated wellbeing instruments, in collaboration with the Chair in Contemplative Sciences at the University of Zaragoza. Results are reported anonymised, every year.
